When tank, like KV-1S is in battle, it is impossible to train a tanker for that tank, see attached image.
When tank returned from battle, training was possible.

Expected: training possible at any time.

I've consulted this issue with our World of Tanks specialist and we have found that this feature is working as intended - you can have only one tank of the same name in garage and when the tank is in battle, you can't perform any operations related to that tank, including crew retraining.

How can training be related to a tank, while it is possible to train the crew for a tank that player doesn't possess?

Actually it's a good question - the issue has been passed for a further investigation.
If there is going to be some change related to the crew retraining of a crew member which is currently in an other tank to a tank which is currently in battle, it will be announced in the update notes.
